and not think Dave A is the greatest drummer Pearl Jam ever had. its impossible.

Somebody go down to Texas (or wherever he is) and drag him back to Seattle.

  • Dave A gets style points.

Matt is techinically a far better drummer.

    Irons was the groover.

Anybody who knows anything about drumming knows Dave A. was all flash, no substance. Matt blows him out of the water.
  • Also, can we stop it with the drummers threads? Jesus fucking Christ. There's ten new ones every week, and they all dissolve into the same fuckery and cuntyness.

    Now, that's catchy.

Listen to Matt Cameron do SuperUnknown around that time and just try to tell me he wouldn't have owned Vs. had he been Pearl Jams drummer back then.

    jeez...get over yourself.

if someone wants to talk about it and others want to respond, what's it to you? why does it bother you so much?

    anyway...
each drummer has had a unique imprint on the band. at this point, matt is probably best suited, but i haven't heard the others in a while.

Being a guitar player and knowing next to nothing about drumming, it would make sense why I like the guy who is "flashier" more than the guy who is technically better. I understand where your coming from.

I still like Dave A. though, sorry lol.
And before his first step... He's off again...

i think the debate will be settled when you listen to matt play immortality from any boot in 2000. he plays that song FLAWLESS. neither jack or dave could play that song as well as matt did in 2000. i swear to god the best song ive ever heard for drumming was immortality from 6/6/00 cardiff bootleg. his style and groove to that song was ace.

Dave A kind of sucks, he's all noise and no substance. Pearl jam is a far better band with Matt on the drums-- it's hard to go back and listen to the earlier albums after hearing Matt play those songs live.

i can't stand Dave A's style.. i can barely listen to old boots anymore. not sure if it's his snare sound or just the way he played those old songs but i cannot stand it!

Jack and Matt are much better.

To make the argument that Dave A. was "all flash" is crap.

Like Eddie climbing scaffolding and stagediving wasn't flash.

Like Mike playing guitar solos being his head and smashing guitars (back in the early days mostly) wasn't flash.

    Like Jeff's 12 string bass wasn't flash.

Like Matt's current and increasingly long drum solo in Evenflow isn't flash.

Like the strobe lights PJ uses at their live shows aren't flash.

The list goes on and on and on... Just admit that you don't like Dave A. instead of hiding behind a "reason"

Yeah, even John Bonham coming back from the grave couldn't save Binaural and Riot Act.
  • damn right...but i wouldn't say hes the best. i love his style though...
