Trees

Laughs in the distance,
they run away.
In the forrest,
there's no smiles,
only trees
to tell me I'm small.

Lifeless branches
shield the skies.
Frigid air moves them,
and I connect.
It's the same air
none of us can breathe.

I talk to them,
and tell them about you.
They smile and remind me
there's water in the roots.
They're alive inside,
and spring will come again.

These things I think,
always the same.
Expressed so vividly
in my head.
That makes them mine,
and keeps you safe.
