I was due to fly that horrific morning, and of course ended up having the skies silent for nearly a week. The shock and horror of that day will Never be Forgotten. That day opened a gaping hole in my heart for the victims and their families. I proceeded to write ~92 poems re to 9-11...here is the first.....I borrowed the lyrics from 2 songs to penn this one.

Something’s happened here!
What it is I can’t even say...
For the victims and their families, we all pray

There were terrorists with just knives over there
They held planeloads of people hostage in the air
Then flew them to their deaths,
As human missiles exploding despair

Bodies flying everywhere…
Dust & debris raining down from the New York sky
The World Trade Towers came crashing to the ground
The Pentagon in flames,
America attacked by an enemy with no name

God, what’s that sound?
Everything evil is all around!
What the Hell has gone down?
Please someone, run this Evil out of town!

God, we gotta get outta this place,
If it’s the last thing we ever do
There’s a better life somewhere,
For me and you.

It its Jihad or someone else’s Act of War,
Then 10,000 peoples blood has been spilled
Throwing down the gauntlet for more,
Too many innocent families have been killed

God, we gotta change this place,
If the last thing we ever we ever do.
There’s a better way,
Than the horror we all witnessed today!

Something’s happened here…
What is was is too horrible to replay
Coward’s playing Satan in Devil’s worst way..

Revenge won’t make it all go away,
But continue this insanity like we saw this awful morn,
Some people will be torn,
And want to attack the scorge of Earth that this evil was bourne,
Let’s just all hope that justice will de done.

God, we gotta change this place,
If it’s the last thing we ever do.
There’s a better way,
For me and you!

  • The Earth shook from the thunderous sounds
    The exploding flames all around
Body parts, burning debris hailing down
My God! The world is ending for New York town!

What happened next was more utter chaos
Families shattered, 10,000 orphans & widows created in an instant
    of time,
    Innocent childrens' dreams suddenly lost

No reason could justify any cause
The innocent lives so horrible the cost

No time to grieve, no time to pause
The ground heroes scrambling to save any not yet gone
Helping the survivors to safer ground
They had nobility in the face of danger
They had heroes’ courage to rescue strangers
Saving unknown souls they did not know
The grief they had, no time yet to show

The best of humanity displayed after the worst, insanity
This is the good spirit that we all thirst
So valiantly displayed before all the world
So many heroes the day real evil’s plan unfurled

For all the Heroes on the Horror of September
    We all will never forget!
    We all will forever remember,
The day heroes triumphed over evil!

  • I'll Save Your Life Today

The flames are roaring out of the towers
Smoke has filled the New York sky
God give me strength, give me power
It’s too beautiful a morning to die
Victims scream out to God, Why!?

Going up the endless stairs my heart is racing
Thoughts of unknown souls to save
Many unsung heroes this day will make
Many hearts, this day will break
I am rushing to the top ‘fore it’s too late

Thoughts of my family race through my mind
Thoughts of the horror I will find
    The heat pushes me back
But there’re many more stairs to climb
The survivors sprinting down the stairs
    Leaving the horror behind
    My equipment is getting heavy
My focus on saving more survivors needs to be steady
With all my training for days like this, I am ready
My sweat is poring, debris is falling
For God, the victims are calling!
I must press on to put out the fire
The situation ‘round me growing dire

A raucous rumble is starting to shake the tower
I’ve got to be strong, I’ve got will power, to carry on
My God! The ground is shaking beneath my feet
Images of my family flash before my eyes
I’ve got to get to the survivors before the heat
In the next instant I realize,
Now the tower is falling down
My ultimate sacrifice is at Ground Zero Town
I tried to save your life today
Together we are in heaven I pray
Memories of our families we take
Our sorrows for the hearts this day we break

very deep...thank you for sharing those...I think I will always remember that day, I was in Oklahoma and it also brought to light again their bombing tradegy, sometimes people are just so cruel...this morning I was crying my eyes out on the way to work, they were playing alot of really touching interviews on the radio, hard to believe it's been 5 years...it does make me think how the best and worst in people were brought out and always are during tradegy, people helping strangers they wouldn't normally give the time of day to, some hearts get jolted open...
Our love must not be just words, but True Love, which shows itself in action,
No one needs a smile more than someone who fails to give one,
After you die...you know how to LIVE!

  • Thanks PJN! I am fine, yet melancholy today in remembrance of that horrific day that was seared into our memories across the world, the day we all were New Yorkers.

Hard to imagine 5 yrs have already passed.

Being the Eternal Optimist...yes the world is fucked up in many ways

but I do believe in the Greater Good of Humanity...especially when I see the beautiful souls like you and others that post here.

I'm afraid I'll need to keep my Day Job before I can pay my bills writing poetry, but thanks for your kind thoughts. I am only interested in sharing them (my poetry), and thanks to the internet, and this case PJam, I can share with all of you.

Actually 9-11 opened such a big hole in my heart and that caused poetry instead of blood to pour out, and it hasn't stopped since, nor do I want it to. Seriously I had not written that much poetry before 9-11.

  • you're very welcome MetsFan.....the Whole World was New Yorkers that day and the days followed. As you know, many people from around the world were in those towers.

I'd been to the top of Towers, twice and many pics from there, and even on the ground floor, looking up

actually I have alot more poems about 9-11 but I just picked the 1ST one two others that I thought hit home

yep, it was a fucked up day
and now we have to live in a
    fucked up way.
    my .02 cents.
  • This has been one of the harder anniversaries for me as well...I don't know if it's the distance in time, or miles, but this is the first time I have been unable to cry for the dead. I'm still trying to figure out what it means. Peace to everyone here, today, I hope you all feel that small boost from the taste of mortality and memory, and let it propel you...anywhere, and everywhere.
