a story
in my mind.
enter, stage left
you
the only part.
a quiet setting.
no significance particular.
green grass.
and a girl from nowhere
lost in my thoughts
now. everywhere.
your beginning...my happy ending?
chapters later i remember.
you
never more beautiful
than at the start of my day.
but a world away.
our long day's journey became night
and you disappeared
so quickly, too quickly.
another chapter.
yet that question
does someday ever come?
inaudible.
so why do i believe that it does?
no beginning, and my unhappy ending.
a still sort of setting now.
carpet marks.
like tree rings marking the day
since our sun
all shined out?
93 million miles, wasted
and never so far from the tip of my pen.
perhaps an author
no more i make.
but my flame, my flame i keep
burning
just bright enough
10,100 pages in
to keep on writing.
