Earlier today, a sound
tucked itself under the tilt of my chin
as I took some books in. ‘Nothing new
under the sun,’ I said, except –
hold on – except this, except you.
‘Seen anything interesting?’
you said from a long, slow
stream of sun-trapped shoppers.
You were a show-stopper.
‘Nothing but pretentious drivel,’
I said as we left the bookshop,
Hands joined like sunspots
Made by our glasses on the ground.

prior to actually doing it for the first time, I never knew I could turn my tongue sideways.
