As she watched me bend out, back braced
from the bath, my kneecaps calloused –
as she saw my knees smack the tiled floor
and didn’t flinch; saw the wrong-way foot-jut,
my legs’ dead-ends overlooked by buttocks,
cold and pink like hatchlings; as she looked
and I lugged my low-half from the bathroom,
bum-shuffled the rest of the way to the bed,
ended the crawl, swung my legs in front
and shut my stubborn limbs from the hips, shins,
ankles, toes – she had her breasts on show.
‘You’re sex on legs,’ she said, and then we went to bed.
