freezer burn

Our conversations come
like children selling candy.
Deliberately rush through the lines
memorized and rehearsed.
Tend to feel our way through it
like a man staggering to the bathroom
in the middle of the night
he knows the way by memory
but the hands still lead
searching for surprises unseen.
Stub the toe
a corner out of place
another falling from grace
another rented space to fill
with thoughts spinning like a coin
on a table top.
Mouths frozen like some bag
forgotten in a freezer.
Defrost this day
with the skill of ice sculptors
blinded by the fragments they relieve
perfectly imperfect sacrafices to the cause.
Wish I could replace the pieces
back to the beginning
carve it out again with hands more careful
and words dug deeper
than the holes I fill
with someone who looks like
you.

This one is interesting, although I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you mention conversations being like someone staggering to the bathroom in the dark and being memorized and rehearsed at the same time. ??
