I haven't been a member here for long, but i've been here long enough to know that there are a few excellent songwriters. With summer break approaching I'm looking for songwriting projects. What would you guys think of submitting song lyrics and the songwriters turning them into songs for an album? Anyone who is interested start posting lyrics, and maybe a couple of artists you would like to compose your song.( If you are familiar with them and their music.) I would be willing to try and get it produced once it's put together. Poets,Songwriters, anyone interested?

I've twelve strings on my twelve string, and my pen at the ready. Let's go. :)
  • Yes, it comes with a free watch, and if you act now you can have your own work sent back to you, in CD form for three easy installmants of 39.95. And the first five callers get a life size stand up cut out of Scott stapp absolutly free.

    OK, here's my song...

    Better off Breathing

To the history teacher you’re not listening
    Contemplating your own existence
Sitting with a pencil in your mouth
Wondering if this is what life is about
    Your chest is so empty
Keeping it that way is tempting

    Chorus
    But, you’re better off breathing
Understand this life is about feeling
    Turn off your heart
    And this life falls apart
    So take it all in
    And learn to live again

    You’re watching her walk away
You want to tell her to stay
That this is not the end of forever
But you cannot say you love her
    For your heart has locked
You want this life to simply stop

    Chorus

You can’t fast forward through the pain
Or replay kissing her in the rain
    It’s about this moment here
    Swallow that freezing fear
    Take in a deep breath
    And forget about the rest

    Chorus
    Because, you’re better…
    Live the life you dream

"Cause I can't wait to figure out what's wrong with me
So I can say this is the way I use to be" -- John Mayer

  • This sounds good catchy and upbeat..to me Jboel. Intriguing and important subject.

I guess one thing we should do is listall of the songwriters who can record and post music..If you are an artist as such send me a pm and i'll make a list. It would bre good if the contruibutors could here the various artists and kind of pick a couple of artists whom they would like to represent their work. I guess a link to samples of your music would be nescecarry.

Thanks :) I think this is a cool idea. I would love to hear anyone do something with the lyrics. I will admidt, I write poetry, so the idea of wrinting a song was a challenge.

  • the two are vary similar...I post mostly lyrics on here and get lots of comments on them as poetry....when i read someones work on here I automatically kind of sing it...or try to see it as a song..

poetry has rythm to it, so the poet shouldn't feel obligated to present it to us musicians as a song..but if you have a vision for your work as a song don't be afraid to share it , or use the wrong termnology just describe it the best you can or compare it to another song..

    so... who's in?

    pasta
    fins
    joel
    depop
    walker...

and ok. so. let's do this. we've got a set of lyrics. is that the one we wanna go with? hey, joel and depop... do you guys play instruments?

the first project will be the hardest, but after that, it should be pretty easy, yeah?

let's talk about what it'll take to push a collaboration through? what's y'all's thinking?
  • we could call it "echos from the pit" and send it to the band with a message that reads just giving a little something back.

so... should we write the songs and holler over to the musician's page to find someone to do bass and drums?

i don't know if those homies would be down with something like this, ya know?
  • I can do bass and... program drums...eeeeeek...I can actually record live ones but that's a major hastle at the moment....And the quality would be questionable at best.

    :D Yea-yeah!

I only sing (I currently appear nightly at Dans La Douche :p) so, obviously I have absolutely no musical talent at all :D but I like to write and would love to attempt some lyrics, just for the simple fact of trying to write actual lyrics. Sounds fun!

And thumbs up, jboelhow! You did a great job with them lyrics! :)

My song writting days are over. But I love the idea.
« One man's glory is another man's hell.
You’re on the outside, never bound by such a spell.
Together in the darkness, alone in the light.
I took it upon me to be yours, Timmy,
I’ll lead your angels and demons at play tonight......»

  • Okay, walker, I'm gonna give it a shot this weekend and hopefully come Monday, I'll have something worth sharing! :D Yeah, singing is musical ability but I persoanlly feel that the musicians have the real talent. :) Maybe just that's because I admire the fact that the musicians I know are so dedicated to their craft and work really hard. To me, singing comes easy and as long as you don't sing monotone, pretty much anyone can carry a tune. :)

joel!!! You're welcome and it WILL be fun! Can't wait to see more from ya!!! :)

I've got some lyrics in the attic, I'd be happy to disperse them to the crowd.
  • Elf... bring it
    Being enlightened.... bring it
    coachchris....bring it
    jboelhow...bring it
    seven signs... bring it
Don't feel like it has to be something written as a song... If you've written a poem(even one already posted on here) and you just wonder how someone would convert it to a song post it. We can work with the arrangement.Mozart has work upon work where he sat the work of various poets to music..music doesn't nesicarily have to fit the verse /chorus verse /chorus format.

musicains.. should we set up a soundclik account.. or something of that nature so we can post and d'load ideas... and add to them.. comment suggets etc....

    Obituary

I walked through a lighted maze
    the endless neon lit hallways
I rode the elevator seven floors

I walked through fogs of haggard coughs
past the charts that lined the walls
I shuffled past those whitewashed rooms
where bouquets couldn’t sanctify the tombs

    the human traffic stalling out
life was shifting in and out
and birth and death had mingled
like hazard lights across the night
    highway

I turned the handle on your door
    walked into room 64
and saw the snowy sheets across your bed
bleaching out the blood of life
it seemed like hours until I reached you side

*but your bank of breath was overdrawn
    the vault was empty
    the savings gone
and the final check you whispered from your lips* (chorus)

you spoke to me your final words
and as your life was winding down
I was picking up the pace

    sitting their beside your bed
and at your final resting place
I remembered fingers drained of blood
    and your biography was written
in the wrinkles on your face

I don't often write lyrics, but I did put music to this with a friend in Turkey last year, it has been performed once in front of his parents and neighbors at a party, I am relenquishing the previous music, since I can't play guitar and I don't remember what we played - good hunting
