He wakes up,
getting out of his bed,
thinking of the day he dreads.
He prays for his light to shine
on everyone he comes
into contact with.
At the same time,
another is waking up.
He is thinking about
what this day has for him.
He does not pray; he is
his own God.
He does as he is told,
helping those in need.
He pushes people around,
Shouting “Do as I said!”
As the men lay in different beds,
They think of their day
and how it was spent.
One hopes his prayers
were heard;
one laughs out loud.
One will die
with friends.
One will die
with nothing.

Can't you see that there's light in the dark.
Nothing's quite what it seems in the city of dreams.

On a personal level I feel I am the man that prays. The problem with prayer is that a person does not intellectually know there is a God; he/she must pray with a belief and a hope that there is a God and that God hears and answers the person’s prayers. Furthermore, if prayers are answered, one may have problem interpreting the answered prayer. However, people that due not believe in a God, are just as capable of treating others with human respect. I feel the point of my poem is that, people who believe “they are their own God” are as a norm controlling, power hungry, manipulative, overbearing bitches/bastards (i.e., politicians). Can't you see that there's light in the dark.

I am using “their own god” in the negative sense.
When one uses their power to intimidate another.
When you describe yourself as “your own god”
I do not feel that you are happy with your so called “bad”
characteristics. People who think they are “their own god,”
in the negative sense, take advantage of their power.
An example of your beauty would be in your profile, Cate.
Bad people would not have said the things you said in your profile. Can't you see that there's light in the dark.
