Guilt got him where he is today.
Guilt for wanting to leave.
Swallowing his inspirations
of liberation.

Guilt kept his parents together.
Telling her, he was sorry,
never to do it again.
Telling herself, "It is for the children."

Guilt kept him in the quicksand
of a sinking relationship.
Time and time again.

Wanting to feel the physical bond-
the closeness- moving on
until he could find the one.

The one who makes him smile.
His life complete.

In return, understanding her desires;
giving to her out of pleasure.

Yes,
Guilt got him where he is today.
Can't you see that there's light in the dark.
Nothing's quite what it seems in the city of dreams.

yes, guilt keeps us from getting to places. it takes us nowhere. but then sometimes we find we are somewhere unexpected. and that is good.
