Waking up to another nowhere day
He slams the snooze button as a drunk slams his last five dollars down on the bar.
Nowhere to go, but to fuckin work, again.
He pours the cereal in the bowl.
Thoughts of somewhere better than here!
Her voice is crisp in his young mind.
The milk spills over-
He thinks to himself,
“Another corn-flake day.”
Losing track of time he grabs his coat and runs out the door.
As he drives his mind drifts away-
Chasing her on the beach.
Tickling her feet- Wait, she doesn’t like that!
Laughing to himself,
as he blows through a stop light.
He gets to work, puts on a crisp new uniform and takes a deep breath.
Another soggy day-
Thinking that somewhere has to be better than here.
He sees her brown eyes
He feels her soft legs
Giving out a heartfelt sigh, he wipes a tear from his eye-
The work day through,
he drives home, his mind soggy mush.
Walking through his buildings doorway
he sees the soggy corn-flakes.
He dumps the bowl out and
laughs thinking,
“There will be plenty more
crunchy corn flakes to eat tomorrow.”
Can't you see that there's light in the dark.
Nothing's quite what it seems in the city of dreams.
