She pulls back the covers of their bed, noticing he is no longer there.
Seeing their picture on the bed stand, she looks out their window.
The boat at the dock is gone. Her heart sinks knowing that this is not what he wanted.
A bond of trust that no one could understand. He does not care that anyone understands. It has been broke, possibly never to return. She has made her choice.
He has made his choice; he has lived his life alone, even with people in it. As he paddles away he wonders if he will regret it. He wonders if she will regret it.
Can't you see that there's light in the dark.
Nothing's quite what it seems in the city of dreams.

she presses her hand against the window glass. it is frozen to the touch. she shivers and wraps her arms around her body. what the hell was she thinking? she goes back to the bed. sitting on the edge, she takes his pillow and buries her face in it. breathing in his scent she starts to cry. she knew what she had. that was never the problem. her head was turned by another and it seemed she could have it all. she was wrong. her being alone in this cabin this morning told her that. and yes she had made her choice, though it wasn't the one he thought. he had taken his boat away for no reason. well, perhaps it was for his own sanity that he left. she was a fool. this man was her equal and she treated him as a subordinate. while she ran on pure emotion, she never stopped to think what her actions meant to him. now she knows. but it is too late. she has lost him forever and she will regret it to her dying day.

he races the dawn in the mist towards the mouth of the river. his tears fall and stream silently to his lips. the salt of the earth they called him once. he's bound by will to escape his heart, again he must turn away.

he rows with abandon, his breathing rasped, gasping for silence. his boat reaches it's destination. he leaps for the shore and tastes the last fallen leaf of his imagination. he cries as the wolves gather to tear his flesh.
Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
    And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

Rather than being birthed like a normal child, Chuck Norris instead
decided to punch his way out of his mother's womb. Shortly thereafter
    he grew a beard.

the cold bit into her the moment she opened the door. she gasped and pulled her coat tighter aorund her body. as she walked along the dock, she listened to the trees whisper in the wind. she remembered the first time they met. and everything they had done since. a sliver of the new morning began to appear on the horizon behind the distant mountains. it turned the snow gold and pink. she heard the howling of wolves and she thought of him. a minute later there was silence. she felt something flow through her and a calm settled within. she almost smiled. she rested her hand on her belly. she knew this wasn't over. she knew this would never be over.

  • While being caught up in the memories of her and her lovers’ lives together, she felt a sense of being watched. Hearing a twig snap behind her, she turned quickly and caught a glimpse of a wolf slipping off into the shadowy forest. An odd, warm feeling of tranquility grabbed her. She could not put it into words: something was to come about, she was sure of it. As she walked from the snow-covered dock, noticing her lover’s foot prints in the snow, an eagle flew over head. She was not of an Indian origin, but these were very strange signs, she thought to herself. Thoughts of a possible miracle raced through her mind, could he be alive? She headed back into their cabin to make a warm cup of tea.

time passed. and as winter turned into spring, her belly grew. though thoughts of him would never fully disappear, she tried to occupied her days with other things. there was a part of her that still hoped for his return. and it was this that she felt was holding her back. she clung to this land because it was his land. as she walked through the woods, she saw and heard the new spring life. he should be here with her. it was unfair to her that he was taken from her. and yet it was her own doing. she knew she was reaping what she had sown. she had been looking for something she already had and she was too blind to see it. now she had lost the one thing she needed the most. she could do this alone. she just didn't want to. but she had to. she had to find the strength she didn't have before. it was no longer just about her.

he slept for days. he dreamt of solitude and the sun's reflections in a running river and he dreamt of the lover he could not understand, her immediate carresses, her look over her shoulder as they would pass by the empty porch, still standing at old man crossington's place.

jenna kept watch over his fitful sleep, as he let go cries of anguish for that which he thought was lost.

he heard the howl of the wolf.

then he was awake. then there was jenna.

He thinks to himself "how funny it is, how dreams are almost reality" The wolves are constantly hovering over.... barking, ready to pounce. Symbolism has no meaning anymore. She screams softly as he sits "The symbolism is killing me"

she came to him and stroked his brow. when he said he had to go back, jenna asked him if he was sure. he looked at her as if not quite comprehending what she was asking him. as he stood up and stretched she could see that he was still injured. when she reached out to touch the wound he shied away from her. she could see he wasn't strong enough. she also knew she doubted she could change his mind.
