Hollow Beauty

There is a grand Aspen forest; the poplars have been there for a long time. In the North East corner of this beautiful spot, stands a majestic Oak tree. This Oak has been there longer than the other trees. People have marveled at its beauty for many generations. Climbing on the tree limbs, youths and adults have many fond memories of this tree. Many couples have laid their blanket under its canopy, talking of love and dreams. Couples have made love under its umbrella. Hell, there are even names and dates of past lovers carved in its bark. Unfortunately, this tree, (a reminder of love), is dying. No one can see the Oaks decay; it is dying from the inside. Termites have been tunneling their way through its core for many years, going unnoticed by passing lovers and friends. Granted there have been a few broken branches over the years, nonetheless, it has always stood strong. The bark is starting to fall off; the beautiful green leaves are fewer each year. Soon the tree will be very hollow, unable to produce leaves or joy for others-It will soon die.
Can't you see that there's light in the dark.
Nothing's quite what it seems in the city of dreams.
