This is a short story written in a "short movie" format... I guess you could call it a storyboard-format story... A combination of a story and how the director might cut it together...just thought I would put this out there and see what you all thought...

*********************

[The camera opens to a shot of a quiet street at midnight. Slowly it maneuvers downward to focus in on a rather large home with a two car garage. The camera closes in on the building and magically passes through the wall where we see what looks to be a young boy seated at the work bench with his back turned.]

[The soft glow of a low watt fluorescent bulb illuminates the area surrounding him, although it is extremely difficult to make out what he is working with.]

[As the camera moves closer and actually looks down over his shoulder we can see clearly. On the work bench is an old picture of what looks to be a family of three in one of those studio poses. Beside it; a .38 calibre revolver.]

[The camera swings around to get a look at the young man's face. He looks no more than 14 years of age, with dark black hair and eyes that are green, although it is hard to tell the color because of the tears welled up in them. We now recognize this child as the young boy in the picture beside the gun, during much happier times.]

[Barely able to control his emotion, the boy finally manages to open the drawer he was working on. In it, among the screwdrivers and other tools, is the ammunition for the weapon in it's original cardboard box.]

[The tears continue to stream down his cheeks as he fidgets to open the box and carefully load the gun.]

[Wiping his eyes and sniffing a few times, he gets control of himself even further and fills each of the 6 chambers.]

[CLICK]

[The cylinder is now closed and the young child takes another long look at the picture. His hand gently caresses the images of the couple with him. Both very attractive individuals, seemingly happy and without care.]

[Suddenly the picture is hurled out of sight and is destroyed as it hits the wall. The sound of shattered glass brings about more sobs from the child.]

[Without warning, the gun is lifted to his head.]

[The camera cuts to an extreme close up of the weapon as the hammer cocks back and strikes the bullet.]

[In slow motion, the bullet travels down the length of the barrel and just as it finds it's mark, images flash in rapid succession.]

[A high school boy sharing a moment with two beautiful girls walking down a hall.]

[The same child chasing an attacker from one of the girls who is caught in a dark alley.]

[Their first kiss.]

[A Pearl Jam Concert in the front row]

[A wedding reception where the two, who are much older now cut the cake.]

[The maternity room, where the birth takes place. We hear the physician say in a proud voice, "Congratulations... it's a girl!"]

[The child's first steps.]

[Her first words.]

[Finally, a shot of a beautiful little girl in the arms of her mother. The two look into the camera and smile.]

[BANG]

[Instantly the camera cuts to an extreme close-up of a pair of piercing green eyes. A tear falls. We are so close we can almost see into this individuals soul. Perhaps we already have.]

[He sighs deeply and for only a moment thought's of Robert Frost's Road Not Taken enter his mind. That is replaced by the utter relief he feels with the path he chose not to take all those years ago.]

[The head turns and and the camera cuts to a shot of the same dark street we viewed earlier. A car to the camera's left is started. The lights turn on as it pulls out into the street, and slowly drives out of sight.]

[Fade to black.]
