Do you ever
Sit still and wonder
Do you ever
Relax and just ponder
Do you ever
Listen to the thunder

Mind it reaches
Past the roadways
Curiosity
Surrenders
To thoughts of other ways

Mindset
Lets breach it
And consider possibilities
Sunset
Lets pass it
Look into the brims of our galaxy

Have you ever
Sat there and wondered
Have you ever
Reflected about the sky we’re under
And have you ever
Embraced thought that don’t surrender
Are you thinking the same as me

Look up
Conjecture
Where did it all come from
Stare up
Your assumption
What lays beyond our sun

Like elastic
All circles have two ends
Its fantastic
Retraction will become a trend

One momentary collapse
A temporary glitch
A shattered universe
Slowing to present time
Rotating to perfection
To be reversed
Pulled back at the end of time

But whats worse
And whats more
Before that rock
What was there before
The only thing I enjoy is having no feelings....being numb rocks!

And I won't make the same mistakes
(Because I know)
Because I know how much time that wastes
(And function)
Function is the key

Good read...pondering where we came from, I am sure we all do that...

I know I always do. I believe in the big bang theory. But what really makes me wonder, is where did that enormous mass come from. It couldnt have "always been there" At some point in time, all things begin, and all things end. even a circle.

  • here is a bit more:
In case you don't know anything about the big bang theory...

the short of it is that all of the univers's matter was once one huge mass. it expoded scatterring throughout the 'universe'. This explains gravitational pull, why the earth rotates, and why that rotating slows on an exponentio curve (or decaying curve...I cant remember which, but it is well documented that earth's rotation is slowing. That is why we remove one second every few few years on New years eve...doesn't seem like much, but it is eary none the less). It also expains why the separation between all galaxies changes at a fixed rate. The teory says that once the rotating stops, all will reverse spinning, and return to one huge mass. Kind of like a yo-yo.

the real questions I have to ask are 1...how can the universe be infinite, and 2...where did that big mass come from in the first place. You can't say...well, the big bang has happenned several times....it probably has. but at some point in time, that mass had to be created....space dust? where did that come from. How could space be there forever?....and so on.

I think about this all the time.

Actually I really didn't know much about the big bang theory but that is interesting to think about. I think about that kind of stuff too. I think I'm trying to figure out just what I believe. I didn't realize there were so many different theories on how we came to be (yes, I was very sheltered growing up).

Yes, this sort of thing I think of too much, and wish I didn't because it scares me. The only answer I can come up with is sometimes we shouldn't question how and why and just accept what is.

I find more comfort in knowing what I believe in...it makes things alot easier.

This one is very appealing. :)

Well I believe in God, essentially, the rest I have no idea about. We can think about it and make up theories all we like, but we weren't around to see it so at it's best our knowledge of such things are only guesses.

Uh-oh, I'm probably gonna get it on this one BUT,

We can think of God and divinity and make up theories all we like, but our knowledge of such things are only guesses produced by teachings from story books.

    :)

I wander and ponder, asking myself "why? and from where?" often. Thoughts of God and the universe tend to lead to so many unanswered questions that it can make my head spin! :) Especially thinking of different dimensions and parallel universes and quantum physics... :D It's definately good to "go there" once in awhile though and try to get your head around it.

I enjoyed your poem, depop! :)

I know. and I think of that too much as well. Not saying I don't believe in evolution and the like or the big bang, etc. What I'm saying is I think of all this unanserablw stuff a lot, as many do, but sometimes I just have to stop and relax and except that I have no idea and even if I knew the truth it would be beyond my comprehension to imagine it. If I didn't I think my head would explode. Plus sometimes I think people ask 'why' too much (i am guilty here too). They can't just sit back and enjoy what is from there limited knowledge.

I agree, asking "why" TOO much is not a good thing if you can't just enjoy life as it is, for sure! I also think that the truth is far beyond human comprehension--that may be why we tend to give what we believe as the truth, faces that we can recognize.

Now, let's just kick back. I'll pour us each a nice, big glass of Shiraz and we can stare at the stars and just enjoy the simple beauty of the night sky and the pleasure of eachother's company. :)

  • Hey all...I actually watched TV the other night!!!!! I was in a hotel, and went to discovery chanel and watched a doc on this big boom experiment. It was great. They are building a HUGE particle accelorater (same idea as the syncatron....wow, my spelling sucks today), but it is going to be the world's biggest machine. It is scheduled to be complete in mid 2007, and is 27 km in diameter (err something like that) It is 100m underground and runs through geniva (err spelling) and part of france!!!!! The idea is that they will be able to make subatomic particles travel at speeds approaching SOL, and then collide!! Then, a reaction will take place, and the particles will have somewhat the same reaction as the big boom.

Got me really excited, but then I stopped to thing....the big boom is the most powerful reaction of all time right? So are we sure we want to use supermagnets and nuclear reactions under our surface to simulate this?

that's scary. i don't think they know what they're messing with there. And what for exactly?

Yeah, I figured :) but I mean what exactly is the point of finding that out. I bet it cost billions, which in my opinion could be put towards saving peoples lives and finding cures for diseases. Hey don't listen to me, I dropped out of science in uni because all this stuff was too much for me, couldn't find it in me to judge what was right or wrong and thought to much of it came to close to playing god.

well, actually, it is not billions. it is like half a billion or less...I don't recall. It was actaully a surprisingly low number. Also, it sounds like it is for the most part privately/corporately funded.

These types of devices serve multiple puposes. A huge use for them is medical research. The can slow particles, making research easier, and simulate experiments that could otherwise only be done in space. Also, if you discover how a planet, and more importantly its atmosphere, are created that is HUGE. imagine simulating atmosphere in areas of famine. Replenishing the ozone, stopping global warming, creating atmosphere on mars or the moon that would be suitable for living in......dare to dream....creating a planet (though that is not ever likely, but the others are)

so they're not just using it to do big bang experiements? well that's a bit different then. I didn't watch the doco so I really can't comment.

well, they didn't say, but I assume. There are 3 partical eccelorators in the world (this is number 4) and they are used primarily for medical and petrochemical research. This is such a huge machine in comparison to them, or anything else ever built, that the passablities are mind boggling though. I would assume they would dedicate 3 or so years to research primarily the big bang, then stem from there. I don't think a lot of medical research will be done with this machine, none the less, a lot of good MAY come from it...imagine if they could turn CO2 into something usefull!!!!

Also, look at the energy consumption of this beast. It will use slightly more power than a typical city of 300 000!!!

You know what my mom likes to say to me? Satan be gone. She the burries a crucifix made from popcycle sticks against the back of my head while trying to drown me in holy wtaer that the cat just bathed in.

She also wears a garlic wreath.

I personally think it is odd that one would wear such a thing. How odd.

  • The big bang theory is passe at this point, everyone's busying their brains with superstring theory of M theory. The basic premise is that because light acts as a particle sometimes and a wave other times, it must be a combination of the two - a string. And these strings can stretch an almost infinite distance until they wrap the entire universe in a kind of membrane. And since no one can predict how light behaves - quantum physics - the theory says that their are many other membranes paralell, possibly even interconnecting with our own, where light acts in different ways, and that every time two of these membranes collide, the resulting catastrophic release of energy could create a big bang. It's pretty interesting stuff.

I think I saw something on this a few years ago. I didn't know if it was a joke or not because it seemed a little crazy and when someone mentioned it to some of my science lecturers at uni they had never heard of it. Granted it wasn't their area but you would think they would have heard of it. Maybe I'm thinking of something different any way, all I remember is it was called the string theory and they mentioned parallel universes or something, even existing in the same place, and i think they mentioned something about an 11th dimension, whatever the hell that is. are we talking about the same thing?

well there you go.I saw that doco in 2001/2 I think. I certainly thought it was interesting, but too weird to be real. Like when people tell me the world is round. How can that be? Wouldn't we all fall off?
