Leaving something behind

Through my books I gained knowledge,
through my children I gained love,
through my spirituality peacefulness,
through living I learned fun,
through my instincts I found passion,
through my sorrows I found tears,
through smiles and laughter I found good times,
through all my many mistakes a lack of airs,
through my confessions I found judgement,
through my pen and paper a release,
through friendship I found people I don't have to try to please,

What I gain requires a lifetime, lots of learning, many bumps,
what I share requires genuiness, what I need is trust,
my ears don't come with condemnation, my eyes don't see someone less,
when did anyone among us sometimes not make a horrible mess,

The only thing I know for certain through the questions all around,
when all of us fade away into the darkness and there remains not a sound,
Love is the only worthwhile mark we make, something we can give for free,
It is the only memory I hope to leave behind as a reflection of me...
Our love must not be just words, but True Love, which shows itself in action,
No one needs a smile more than someone who fails to give one,
After you die...you know how to LIVE!
