A friend of mine teaches a music class at a high school by me. I've been lending him PJ dvd's, books and sharing new Pearl Jam music with him, since he only knows the "old stuff." He and his kids are getting so into them that he's devoting a whole unit to Pearl Jam in his class. Would have loved to have had that class in my school back in the day! :)

What a great way to share the love with the next generation of fans.

Most of the kids in my high school don't even realize that PJ are still creating music and touring. They need this wake up call.
  • my one professor said she'd love to have a seminar on PJ. i told her i'd show up every day even though i already took mine
    MSG II 6/25/08
  • I teach high school in Maui. I use PJ in my English class too. Most kids here really like Roots music, so I needed a hook. I started by playing Iz's Hawaii 78, then PJ's cover at the Blaisdell 06 show. They didn't realize what song it was right away, then went crazy like the crowd at the show did! It started there. The local kids thought it was also so cool that Ed sang in Hawaiian! Now we go over lots of PJ stuff especially in my poetry unit. The students really like the fact that Ed wrote songs back when he was in high school that are now such big hits. We now have a music bulletin board in the classroom with PJ, eV, Jack Johnson, and other clippings about bands they like. The cool thing is that the students I teach are Special Education students with mild learning disabilities. :)

That is so awesome. Since you are in Hawaii, you should show your students the video on YouTube of Jack Johnson/Eddie Vedder duet of 'Constellations' from Kokua Festival 2007. Great song I must say.

That's a great idea! My students would love that duet. Mahalo for your help.

I was just checking the "Music Board" we have going on here in class. We have pictures of all kinds of bands and musicians. We have Ed surfing the North Shore, Ed taking the guys from The Police surfing at Waikiki after their last show here, Jack Johnson surfing a river in Munich, many different song lyrics and poems written by the kids, and plenty of stickers all over the place. I had a kid even bring in an article from Rolling Stone he read about ITW just because it had a picture of Ed with Sean Penn. Bob Marley still holds the record for most things up on the board though.

I did bring in a couple of posters to show them. I also showed them posters like Maui 98 on EBeans. Another great hook! Now they all want posters like Klausen's Hawaii 06. :)
