leaving something behind

The old woman I barely knew cried on the phone,
if I could do it over,
I would have had children,
my husband is gone,
my family has died away,
the holidays are rough when you're all alone,
As time passes and we reflect on what we've done,
what did we leave behind,
what meant the most,
was our time spend on meaningless endeavors,
did we devote many long hours on things that don't matter,
If we are not meant to live life,
than why do we have one,
the choices we make determine it all
if I could do it over,
I would have had children,
my husband is gone,
my family has died away,
the holidays are rough when you're all alone,
As time passes and we reflect on what we've done,
what did we leave behind,
what meant the most,
was our time spend on meaningless endeavors,
did we devote many long hours on things that don't matter,
If we are not meant to live life,
than why do we have one,
the choices we make determine it all
Our love must not be just words, but True Love, which shows itself in action,
No one needs a smile more than someone who fails to give one,
After you die...you know how to LIVE!
No one needs a smile more than someone who fails to give one,
After you die...you know how to LIVE!

And I won't make the same mistakes
(Because I know)
Because I know how much time that wastes
(And function)
Function is the key
yeah, I think it must be the whole "gemini" thing...a friend of mine at work tells me geminis are skitzo and have split personalities, her husband is one...thanks for the kind words!

Thanks Pacifier, yeah I was in kind of a thoughtful mood, was able to relax for a little bit and reflect watching my kids play on the beach. This was based on a real conversation with a distant relative I hardly know. I felt really bad for her, she just starting telling me all about her life and her regrets. Thanx for the kind words, perhaps I can get more down time soon and try a stab at some more. I certainly have enough stories!

LOL! One of my very good friends says the same thing and she's a gemini too! Hee Hee! Maybe it's just that, when you're good, you're really, really good and when you're bad---WATCH OUT!
I liked the message in this one too, twin.
I imagine there are alot of people out there that feel this way. Matter of fact, I have a friend who has no children and has said stuff like that to me. Not that she didn't try, it just wasn't in the cards for her. I have also seen real family break each other's hearts and go on like they never knew each other at all. What some people fail to realize is that we are all a family here, whether or not we're born in blood. The sooner we figure out how to live with each other's differences, the better off we'll be. We are all living in this blink of an eye lifetime, souls in this flesh and blood vessel. And for us born into a free counrty.... wow.. you gotta think our soul hit the lottery. Yes we have our problems, and yes the government sucks, but maybe if we all put our heads together we can figure it out. If it continues on this way, I hate to think what will be left for the next generations. I guess I'm guilty too, because I really haven't done enough. But right now I'm trying to figure out how to get myself in the right frame of mind. I have alot of debt, but I really need to focus more on the good things I have. I've been working on it for years. And my age may have alot more to do with seeing the glass half full.
Hey, but the sun is shining today, its getting warmer here (in Ohio) finally, so for right now I'll take the day at face value and try to make the best of it. I work at 2 arenas here and my season is over 'till basically October. So I guess I will be jobbing soon because unemployment really sucks.
Very nice poem anyway...

to quote someone we all know.
i know i was born and i know that i'll die
the in between is mine
i am mine.
the life we have in between being born and dying in essence represents us. it's what we choose to do with that life that defines who we are.
thanx twin and thanx ed.
take a good look
this could be the day
hold my hand
lie beside me
i just need to say
Hee! Hee! This reminded me of the poem - there was a little girl, with a little curl, right in the middle of her forehead, when she was good, she was very, very good, when she was bad, she was horrid...
