He was reckless and I was safe.
I played by the rules, but he was ahead of the game.
I was quiet and shy, not bothering anybody.
He was telling jokes and the life of the party.
I never saw it coming and there's been no looking back,
Just what makes opposites attract?

I chose a mellow lifestyle while he liked to live on the edge.
I kept my innocence while he had many partners in his bed.
I studied books and furthered my education.
He lived his life like he was always on vacation.
He never saw it coming and there's been no looking back,
Just what makes opposites attract?

I guess we balance out each other.
I know for me, there could be no other.
I know with time it has proven to me,
how unpredictable life can be.
Because we never saw it coming and there's been no looking back,
Just what makes opposites attract?

I like this! I might write an "opposites attract" poem too, if that's okay! :)

Feel free! I'm glad you liked it. You are one of the tougher critics on the board in my opinion.

I like this, too! It's very clear, and flows really nicely.

Lady Jemima had lots of spare time, ah,
to roam when Lord Donald would head off
for golf with the Viceroy or time with his "nice boy":
She went for a bit of the rough stuff.
Oh Cheggers the poacher, she made him her smoocher
and clung to the mud on his britches
While squealing "How pleasant to sleep with a peasant!
He drives me wild, dropping his aitches!"

  • :) That was really sweet, twin2. I really liked the repetition of the slightly changed 2nd last line and the last line in each stanza, that worked really well!

The "nice boy" and the poacher got married in a special service in San Francisco and lived happily ever after. Lord Donald and Lady Jemima continued to glare at each other over the soggy breakfast toast, for eternity. ;)

  • nice twin2!

i always wondered if we see in our opposites traits that we'd secretly like to have...
    You ask me to enter
But then You make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
    To what You got
When all You've got is hurt
    ----
    Underneath this smile lies everything
All my hopes and anger, pride and shame
