Just a Day at the Beach

Went down to the docks
to sail the ocean blue.
Went down to the docks
and watched the seagulls as they flew.

Smelled the salty air
felt the breeze upon my face.
Tasted the joy of summer
all around the place.

Felt the sand squish round my toes
struggled to run in the sand.
Sailed my boat from shore
and heard children's laughter up on the land.

Sailed over the ocean
rode the waves with a gentle speed.
Enjoyed the sunshine shining brightly
felt like a prisoner who'd been freed.

Heard the seagulls cry
watched puffy, white clouds in a clear, blue sky
saw fish jumping in the water as if they could fly
felt the cool water splash me as waves rolled by
and enjoyed every precious moment of my life.

  • Your poem makes me miss my summer nights...As I look outside and see the snowflakes fall.......
It doesnt hurt.... when I bleed
    but memories...they eat me
    I've seen it all before,...
bring it on cause I'm no victim.

I know. It was raining all day yesterday. Too gloomy, so I needed a pick me up. Memories can be a good thing.

This is very nice. I'm inspired to write a poem about the ocean or walking near the beach, but when I look out the window all I see is concrete. At least I can think of the blue sky and a horizon line, and the smell, and that hazy static feeling . . .:)

I'm sorry about your view! I live about an hour away from Ocean City, so in the summer we go to the beach alot. Since I've had the twins, it's been a little tough because they are so young and require alot of maintenance (not to mention that I can't go by myself with them, they take off running in two different directions!!!!). It was alot of fun to see them walk in the sand for the first time or go up to the ocean. They were scared of the ocean at first. I've always found the ocean to be so peaceful. It's by far, one of my favorite places.
