Performance of a Song

Here's one I wrote that might appeal to people in a choir or something similar:

Performance of a Song
The lights come up, glaring like the sun.
Nervous smiles fill the stage
As the conductor walks to her spot.
Her hands rise to begin
As our eyes, like little beads, follow
With every intent to keep steady.
The mouths open in preparation
For the first word to escape.
Oh! What a glorious sound.
A sound that for the duration
Of the song seems like an angel's chorus.
The end is near, but the energy
Continues to be strong. The final cutoff
Is signaled and the silence
Is without motion. Then, the
Applause begins and echoes
Like repeated gunshots.
Yet, there is no battle here, only harmony.
