Affluence for a mammal
Is a comfort for spine
Studded like beads in jewelry
Stacked like seeds in a vine
Bones, but realize direction for growth
Fortune, for blunders to survive
Reasons explained like speeches from the reverend
Religious enough to recite
Blunt enough, even to a beggar
So wisdom would notice few moments of sacrifice
Is all that joy asks for
From a woman before a happy wife
Peace in her heart is like
Seasons frozen in a placid lake
With silently starving fish
Waiting for a summer time
Hours spent in questions of wonder
And pulse, for death to conspire
Along slumber and sun
And faith and education
As temptations are taught out of curriculum
And romeos avenge to retire
Age disappears in longing for youth
That never bothers to arrive
So move a spade and dig an effort
Uproot a tangle and set it afire
Warmth induces a sleep as dark
Yet awake as a charcoal’s pyre
But you still can’t avoid the dreams
All lessons flicker like fire flies
A busy life feels more like a mammal
A reason enough to perspire
No pause can be sure of a heartbeat breathin’
Can’t fool it without a surprise
Labour is just a negotiation
To buy a little more time
Is a comfort for spine

i agree justam ... my poems seem too vague sometimes (except to me) .. and i wonder if it means that they're not focussed towards anything in particular ...... wonder if poems are supposed to be like that
(its irritating)
i wish it was easier to identify a bad poem from the good ones .... i wonder myself if my words make the correct sense they're suppose to ..... its still a long way before i can understand poems ... thanks for the reply !
anyways .... this one means
that how its said that letting go off desires and temptations is the route to joy in life .... everything is broken down to the fundamental reasons and logic ... till ... nothing seems too good and nothing too bad
still u can't avoid the dreams when u sleep ...
maybe being a mammal ... the best that we can do is simply do our deeds ....keep the mechanism working ....
be busy always .... maybe that's the essence of life ....
Thank you SO MUCH for explaining this. I think the thing you're thinking about is an important wonder. People do say that we need to release our desires, yet, how does life retain it's high and low points without desire and fulfillment of them?
My best friend gave me a book called "Shambhala: The Sacred Path of the Warrior" by Chogyam Trungpa, here's a little backgroud, if ya wanna read: http://www.shambhala.org/teachers/vctr/readings.html . He touches on what you've said, about letting go of desire because it is the desire that causes pain and such. It's a very interesting and enlightening read.
I don't think it means a poem is bad just because it's intended meaning is elusive. They're open to interpretation and I've never been offended by anyone who's taken what I've said in a totally different light. I think it's amazing that you can get so many meanings from one person to the next.
warrior philosophies do revolve around the idea of being immune to worldly issues and being focussed towards the more important goals .. thanks for sharing the link BE !
and yeah justam .. there's a thin line between 'experiencing' life and over reacting to it ... man learns from everything .. and variety is the spice of life even if it's spicy enough to burn your guts out ....
the idea is simply to utlise the opportunity of being a human (mammal) ... as they say ... "just one life" ...
ideally .. one must continue to remain busy ... while experiencing the highs and lows of life ..... cause highs and lows will turn into a plain ... one day or the other .... but u won't retrieve much by being idle after the time has passed ...
(need not mention .. being a poet we all love to spend that 'idle' phase thinking and writing verse!)
