Look at you,
you smug little shits.
With your
Ignorance is Bush shirts
and those shit-eating grins.

Look at you,
you bastards.
I've fought in wars.
I've fought my whole life
so you can prance around
and kick in windows
with your No Respect
and your stoned heads.

You shits.
You deserve to die.
You deserve to have all your rights taken away.
You belong over seas!
Get out of my country!
You smug little shits.

does one oftener enough write itself poetry?

not all opponents of war-mongery and corporate cock-suckery are smug, stupid, or stoned... some of us actually care for and about humanity at large

    go figger, hilfiger

I thought it was a political satire on the old soldier mentality.

everybody in the usa should kiss bush ass. he kept the war over there. instead of fighting it here. what i don't understand why people bitching about this war that 2000 soldiers was killed in 3 years. when 11,000 people in the usa are killed by guns a year. i would think people would want too stop it in their own towns or cities more then the war. i don't agree with our gov. i think their all crooks. but then again i don't have to or try take care of 300 plus millions of people. i would like to see the people in the usa put their energy in more stopping killings here first.
  • Give peace a chance, I don't see the need for people to fight all the time like they do.
Life reveals what is dealt through seasons
    Circle comes around each time
  • there is a lot of passion in the poem - i liked it - even though you do not share my opinion of the war -- thanks for sharing

First rule of reading poetry: Never presume that the first-person narrator of a poem is the author. The speaker of a poem might, on extra-textual consideration of biographical data, be argued to share the opinions of the author, but even an authorial narratorial voice is a writing effect and not a physical fact.

The poem did feature a disclaimer at the end, which I either read or misread to state that it was composed by one of the "smug little shits" whom the speaker of the poem is seen to abuse. This poem is, in view of the declaimer, likely to be read effectively (even if, as it turns out, not intentionally) as an example of irony.
