I saw you from about forty yards back
but it was only within the last ten yards
that you took notice of me.
When you saw me I saw your ears
twitch and your nose sniff the air.
You’ve seen me before.
When I approached you
you became tense, frozen for a moment,
before darting back towards your little hole.
But you didn’t go in, you waited as I came
closer, back turned, almost as if you
wanted what was coming your way.
As if you were going to deal with that.
I was nigh five yards from you
when you choked,
when you finally darted into your little hole.
Just like I had feared you would.
As I tossed the club from my right hand
I saw your weak eyes watching me
and I know you felt shame when
the club hit the ground.
Why didn’t you turn and face me?
Coward.
You fucking disappoint me.

Nicely worded. Good pace.
Nice bump. But nice poem. And I agree; a good pace.
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
eager to identify with
someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way
