I snapped
Out of a hypnotic sleep
To find spiders
Snaring folks
In a copper web
Humming from the shoulders
Of steel crucifixes

I would have liked
To arm them
For what seemed
Like a fighting chance
But the longer I watched
The more I realized
Just how over
The war really was

The victims still floating
Amongst the strands
Apparently unaware
Of their own passing

Wow. This piece really blew me away.

I read it through about five times and each time it got better and the imagery was intense and yet, subdued. Great work.
