Open Hand

Been awhile since I've posted, but here's something new.

I will not be the last light to flicker...
I will be the only light to shine.
I will not line up to sell my soul
I'll be keeping what is mine.

I will not trade my dreams for sleep,
My pride won't fade with dawn.
Our humanity may be thinning,
But that doesn't mean its gone.

It takes one man to change the world,
For the good or bad, he can.
The decision remains his,
Closed fist or open hand.

Neither are just good or bad,
The problems not which to choose,
With blurry lines and foreign words
It's knowing which to use.

It takes strength to outlive failure...
To keep you're head held high.
The weakness comes when all is lost
And you kneel down to die.

Good men aren't made, they're forged,
Through conflict and sacrifice.
They find their way through darkness
They continue on without hope's light.

I've always tried to do what's right
Even if I've stood alone.
And though sometimes I've missed the mark,
In blood I have atoned.

When the daylight fades and I stand judged
I don't expect to shine.
There are countless better men then I,
But the decisions made were mine.
I shouldn't have to fight a battle I'll never win, just to lose those I've never had.

great post. You really seemed to go away from your regular style. Well done...tough to do!

    I especially liked these lines:

Good men aren't made, they're forged,
    Through conflict and sacrifice.
The only thing I enjoy is having no feelings....being numb rocks!

And I won't make the same mistakes
    (Because I know)
Because I know how much time that wastes
    (And function)
    Function is the key
