I could leave at night
In the darkness I despise.
When you least suspect,
So I wouldn't have to hear you cry.
I could never say a word,
I could never say goodbye.
There would be no questions asked,
I wouldn't need a "why".

I don't know if you'd notice,
I don't know if you'd care.
I kind of think you wouldn't wonder
Why I wasn't there.
Would you question my reasons,
And say that they're unfair?
My silence isn't meant to harm,
It's for your good that I won't share.

It seems you're here to fight me,
When I only want to love.
It seems you want to push me down
So you can step above.
I know that's not the real truth,
You would never mean me wrong.
But when you seem to single me out,
I can't even try to belong.

So I question myself,
And ask if I should go.
It would almost kill me,
A nearly fatal blow.
But it might make you appreciate us,
And teach you what I know.

I won't take you for granted,
I won't take you where you hate.
I just want to be with you
And show you we relate.

Or I must turn back.
