Love, War, the Wrongs (Kind of a rant)

Kovo

It's funny how this war zone
Could have blossomed from our past.
Once good friends, now opposing forces.
How? A question I've never asked.
We promised to share the future
But I never thought you meant like this.
Like enemies.
Like opposing armies stretching across the horizon
Ready to attack.
It feels like a civil war.

So much hatred in her eyes and heart,
Where as I can only hold the sorrow of past regrets
And love for what we were, and should be.
She wears her shining armor, her pride into battle.
I grudge my rusted shield, my spirit onward.
Not enough to stop her weapons,
Just enough to remind me of the present.
I leave my weapons and soldiers behind.
This is not a battle I want to fight.
This is not a battle I want to win.
She is not an enemy I wish to hurt.
My sword, my sharp tongue fades behind me.
My dagger of truth slips to the ground.
She will not allow my surrender,
So I will allow defeat.
As my spirit darkens, my armor falls away.
I know what must come.
I could win this war,
But it would pain me more then loss.
She is my friend and love,
I have to protect her,
Even If that means from what she thinks I am.
So I take her blows, I take her abuse.
Every word kills me, every accusation a wound.
I fall to my knees and let go.
Only then does she realise why I am there.
Only then does she see the sacrifice.
Only then does she cry out to me.
Not her enemy, her friend.
Her attempted savior.
Only, then is to late to set things right
And I'm left behind.
