We've all had someone we had to lose,
By a twist of fate, or because we choose
To lose the ones that we hold dear
To keep them safe when harm draws near.

Nothing hurts more then knowing the pain
When you have to let free what you've gained,
To keep it safe, to keep it well,
To keep them far away from hell.
The look they give you when you back away,
The pain you feel, when you can't say
The truth, the reason, the final words
That draws them closer, that mends the hurt.
But doing so will condemn them too,
You take the blame, it falls on you.
But you keep them safe, because you care
But know this, the high road leads no where.
I shouldn't have to fight a battle I'll never win, just to lose those I've never had.

  • "we're on the road to nowhere..." I liked your poem, Kovo. I was especially enjoying the rhymes. :)
