It's the hard road I travel,
It's wearing me down thin.
I try to break the cycle
But it keeps me locked in.

It's hard knowing your first chance is your last,
Your present is your past,
And that life comes to fast to keep.

It's hard to let the good things slip away,
Regretting all you say.
Let the night outlast the day, and sleep.

Bridges can't be made from ash,
And I can't walk on air.
You say it like you've never heard,
You mean it like you've never cared.

I've seen a man walk through fire,
Carried the world but never tire.
It took a broken heart to burn him,
And a past regret to turn him
Into a sleeping man who never dreams
With broken eyes that never seem
To see beyond the chains that bind,
And to a world past his pain he finds.
I shouldn't have to fight a battle I'll never win, just to lose those I've never had.
