Hope sits curled in the corner.
My books are behind her.
The scent of patchouli,
warm and familiar,
surrounds us.
She sleeps.
She stirs.
She sniffs
around for me.
She makes me want to write great poems
that say profound things
about this black, brown, white,
new, old dog,
Hope.
