Hello Autumn leaf

An impromptu blizzard of reds and greens;
it's Autumn's helter skelter dance,
come to say hello and shake me into life.
I'm surprised by this welcome ambush.

My face is burnt by the fast cold,
the golden hues go by,
whirling and twirling through the air
carried on sharp, smarting gusts.

Swept up and tussled,
my eyes streaming with tears,
blinking, alive and happy, really happy,
to be caught in this.

A crazy unchoreographed dance;
a bit like me when I'm a little tipsy,
swinging some poor girl around who's got a worried look of uncertainty,
because if I let go she would be flying,
off the floor and out the door.

The leaf, the autumn one:

could be called dances with leaves. Anybody got leaf stories? Leafy tales? Autumnal yarns? Just about the colours or the change. I do love autumn, if it's crisp and cold and fresh. just no drizzle please.

I'll need to look at the leaves for a while over break. I think I can get some stories out of those colors :)

  • Just beautiful! Glorious! I love autumn! I like to go camping this time of year because the colours are just amazing and the sites are usually pretty empty too, which is an added bonus if you're trying to "get away from it all". I love walking in the neighbourhood and seeing all the trees with their fine, fall coats on. It makes me feel refreshed and happy. I even like the drizzle!! :)

This is very good. Very descriptive. I especially like:

  • I'm glad you liked it Being E, because you got me in that Autumn mood..... hope you don't mind but I though I'd stick your haiku in here because it's Autumn.

    pale orange moon
    graces swelling tides
    autumn evening

Go, Biblio, go Biblio, Go!!! Thanks Twin 2, Mookie. It's been raining all day, which is fine!!

Oooo, and tchaliz's haiku addition here made me want to add this as well :) :

    chills my face

  • ......my face is chilled under your caress, as a thousand colours blow through the sky, fired off into a lost star. Now the sky is jet cool and thoughts arrive into my head. I walk along, the world is pulled up and made to stand awhile, waiting for the dancers to fall into place. Before they are lost and gone into the night a voice calls out sometimes......can you hear what it's saying?

I think fall is the best season going. When I was in highschool I used to collect the fallen, coloured leaves and laminate them in plastic. I just think the colours of the trees leaves changing is one of the coolest things nature has given us humans to feast our eyes on.

    Nice pics too!

    Poem was nice as well!
You've changed your place in this world!

I'm still working on a poem for your art. How did you put that together?

I started off with BE's and T's haiku and then tried to express the feeling I had when reading them. I wrote it just after I had read them so it's a drawn out haiku response. It was quite random so I structured it before I pressed Submit Reply.

I'm sorry, I meant the artwork. What were you thinking when you put that together? How is it done?

  • ......'My tiles are nearly real size on bits of wood about 3"x3" or slightly smaller. They were done at the time that I picked up the leaf and sat it behind a card frame cut to the size of the wood tile. So the first one is the real leaf, with red veins. The second is a negative in colour with green veins. These were done carefully and took time. The last two were done in ten minutes a piece based on the colour and the composition of the leaf, abstracted, very liquid (fluid) in form. I think they were acrylic but maybe gouache. It was a case of free instincts born from controlled study'.......

I posted that in 'arms raised like a V' a mookie thread on the art wall.

I was thinking, I really have to get this to look exactly like the leaf for the first one (red veins). Then I concentrated on matching the first with a second with a change of colour. Then, well I thought lets just concentrate on the composition and abstract it so that it is about the leaf and not just the leaf.
