    Letters (5:04)
    April 5, 2006

Just a part of the aching night
I play your knight in this lonely fight
As you debate over who's wrong or right
the shroud of death is wrapped around me tight

while you sit around with the family
    watching your reality tv
do you hear the explosions here
do you feel the things I fear

I know I swore I would be strong and sure
I believed that I could change the world
But the city lights are fading now
And the dream I wanted I dont want anymore

Have you met a six year old boy
All his limbs crushed to pieces
    And yet he smiles,so adorably
Just makes you want to kill yourself

Its morning now, everything's different here
it was freezing a few hours ago, now its hotter than hell
Last night I dreamt the bombs were fireworks
But then I woke up and saw the bodies
They tell me it'll all be over soon
    Soon...Not soon enough
those fireworks destroyed so many lives
some ours, some theirs, some counted and some forgotten

    Letters Reprise
    (4:29)

In the afternoon sun dunes turn into oases
Fools turn into kings, gods into demons...the dead come to life...and the living turn into the dead
    And in the madness
You'd be forgiven for thinking a child was the enemy
they say The enemy is the enemy is the enemy

Among the teeming masses, there's no shortage of heroes
A man kills himself taking a few others with him, he's suddenly a martyr
His life has found meaning, its now worth living
its too bad there's nobody left to live it

I sent her off in a box yesterday
8 by 5, wrapped in stars and lopsided stripes
nineteen years old...too young to buy a drink at the bar...old enough to die
divided we fall, united we fall
I guess life's lessons only go so far

    After the dust has settled
    When the nightmares have faded
The children will play, without fear
Under skies blue. There will be no shadows
Or Pride, or fools, or violence
Just a starry night, and me, and you

I'm sorry sweetheart, who am I fooling here
We both know there is no such place
