not just another love poem

We walked, we talked.
I have always had to struggle beyond anything, not to say something.
My feelings ran.
Ran deeper than the darkest water.
You were already feeling the same way about someone else.
That is why I keep my mouth shut.
I wouldn't want to hurt you or your partner.

As we walked along as merely friends, I noticed a car pass by.
I went to say something but you talked first.
You said that you like to make anagrams out of license plate numbers and letters.
I said that I always do the same thing.
I thought I was the only one.
Memorizing numbers and letters, then making up useless gibberish and meaningless words from it.
We both laughed.
Scoffed it off.

Further up the path, you mentioned that fresh sheets in the laundry were your favorite scent.
I mentioned that mine was fresh photocopier ink, because it reminded me of fresh laundry. Something that I never have time to do anymore.
You laughed and agreed.
Everytime I step into the office I now think of that moment and laugh.
Also, I think of the piles of laundry at home that need to be done.
Yes, my mind wanders, but not far from you.
