a Day in the Life

Your kids are late for school again
You rush them out the door
You didn't sleep that well last night
Or at all the one before
'Cause on your table sits
20 bills past due
No matter what they say, you'll find a way to pull through

People try to judge you and it bothers you to no end
They don't understand, even though they are your friends
How the words can burn you,
Like the brightest flame
But you are a fighter, you'll live through the pain

You wish that you could have just one day to sleep in
But right now that is impossible, so you hide it all within
You get so damned tired, you forget where you are
Even though you are at home it all seems so far

I would like to welcome you all to a day in the life
Of a single working mother, that goes through sleepless nights
You refuse to let it bother you, or you would fall
You're just doing the best you can and that is all
