Ok, this is one of the first originals that my band has been working on. Hopefully we will have a good recording soon, until then... here are the lyrics. If you'd like to post what you think the song means, It would be interesting for me to see some interpretations. Here goes....

Verse 1:
Open the mouth; she shut it down
To the edge he's wise, but never free
Daddy, son outside
With a heart of stone you've got to leave
Self-faithful man, and nothing else
By another's pillow tries to breed
Torn jeans and a photograph
'Bout time the man lies in a bed of leaves

Chorus:
Ohhhhh! That what you heard was a snake behind the veil
You try to push; you try to pull
But all you have to give is now in red
Ohhhhh! A muffled cry through the cracks in the floor you try to breathe
A scratching nail; bite the hand
But that'll make it bleed!!!

Verse 2:
With a chance to grow, she reaches out
And with a heart so torn he tries to save
With a ready hand he fills the mouths
But seems the house alone has got it made
When the door cracks she hears a voice
Not knowing to go or when to sdtay
And with a flashing light pierce the ear
Not what the boy thought he'd hear today

Chorus

Solo

Chorus

Outtro/solo

Any thoughts/ comments are greatly appreciated. Also, I will make sure to check out some other lyrics/poetry, as I know that's how this works. Thanks for any thoughts/comments.

It must be great being in a band, I've been a member in a girlband a long time ago and it was alot of fun, I miss it, we played mostly covers.

First I couldn't figure out what the lyrics was about. But reading it one more made me think it was about getting older and moving out of your parents home, am I close?

    *smile*
To worry about tomorrow doesn't make it easier,
    it only makes today worse.

I see a boy and a girl... and restraint...

but I'm too hungover to figure it out. Nice write though!

  • yeah the lyrics are all over the place and you can't really make enough of a connection to relate ( i wouldn't even attempt ) BUT perhaps the meaning is only significant to the one who wrote it ( and or anyone who shared these expierences )who can decifer it's cryptic like messages
anyway as we know if the words are not so readily attainable to the listener but the music and the vocalist has it all goin on
well then it can be a very enjoyable song to the listener.
  • Thanks all.

Yeah, I had a feeling that most people wouldn't be able to see the meaning as well. I agree that it is something that I (the writer) would understand better.

Basically, it's a song about a family with which I was very close when I was young. The parents went through an ugly split, which resulted from the husband's adulterous actions. 3 years or so later, the mother was murdered in her home, allegedly by her ex-husband (the father). It had a great effect on me as a 12/13 year old (I was best friends with one of the sons). It took place right behind my school, and I just couldn't understand how a family could fall to pieces in such a way as this, and so I chose to write a song about it. To this day, I find it hard to grasp how a person could go from a well-respected member of the community to a person who does such a heinous thing as this.

Basically, the song is a family breaking apart and falling to pieces. Thanks for the feedback. I guess it's cool though how different people interpret it in different ways. Thanks again, for all the comments.
  • wow, cinzredfan that is quite a story and much too much for a young person to have to deal with. sorry for such a thing to happen.
i can understand better now how these lyrics would evolve and take place for you. and yeah, everything isn't always as it seems.
well, i surely hope the grass is greener nowadays
