A room full of her silence. She searches
walls with her fingertips, and retrieves them
covered in dust. Resigned she continues
over smoothness, no photograph nail holes,
no hooks for jackets. An oil lamp's limp light
reveals the bare floor. Her eyes unprepared
for dark, she's startled by the last corner.

In the corner one thought mimes another.
When her fingertips press into walls
she sees the shadows of hands touching.
She removes her hands, and the story ends.

Outside the room regrets weigh more than lists.
She remembers what's said of giving up.
As she writes "to do list" she hears keys drop.
