if at Pearl Jam concerts some of their staff coordinate with the local libraries to run a book drive of good+ condition books. Imagine that. If in the morning of a concert a truck and staff from the local library could receive books in good condition to add to their shelves or sell at their sales for future books. Do you think this would be a good thing - too busyish - what do you think?

oh, yeah, and maybe the staff could create a Pearl Jam bookmark to celebrate the exchange :)

Or course libraries loan out CDs and DVDs so those are options, too.

While I think this is a very sweet idea Ms. Haiku, I think there's a lot to do when putting on a concert and it might be just one more extra thing to have to worry about. Maybe it would be better if the fans organized it? :)

I volunteer, if someone could just point me the way. I also have a full time job, so all communication would be via email and phone. I guess the first thing to do would be to find where the concerts would be held
then contact local libraries (or homeless shelters for canned food)
then coordinate staff from those places
find out on average how many people usually show up to a Pearl Jam sponsored thing like this (in other words how big should the truck be?)
coordinate with event staff where is the best place to hold this sort of thing
have a smooth game plan and back up game plan if it gets too big or out of hand
    bookmark :)
coordinate to get statistics of how many books (canned food) were donated to see if it was worth the library(shelter) time

That's just off the top of my head. They probably have professionals doing things like this, so I would have to contact them. Or maybe they would just solicit volunteer applications from people with this experience. I've organized some things, but not a food drive (book drive) of this size.

On the other hand, libraries, and shelters are good at organizing drives like this, so maybe my coordination with their contacts would be enough, as long as there is a place, a time, a bookmark, backup plan, safety plan etc. it should be smooth. I would prefer that Pearl Jam staff assist whoever is the ultimate contact in planning because I think they have the experience with what can be expected from their fans, and the Pearl Jam name would be associated with it. I would think their publicity people would want to make sure the goal is in line with how Pearl Jam want to be presented.

Ok, silly me, I probably don't have the time(who knows). Too enthusiastic for my own good sometimes. Anyway, maybe someone else at some time somewhere could get the ball rolling with this. As long as there's a bookmark in the works I'll happily help out, no problem :)

Well, I don't have a car so I don't do Routes very well. I must admit I was spoiled those 10 years in Seattle. That place can cook/bake.

I used to do a ton of volunteer work. This is different because from start to end it's a good thing. I would also make sure I didn't burn out. There's really no reason to, as it's a process that should just flow.

I was never much of a partying fool, but rather a quiet bookloving fool :)

I used to do phone crisis counseling, and there wouldn't be a need if something bad didn't happen, you know. Now, there, I overextended myself.

Man, I'm hungry for some cake.
