Hypothetical situation

If you were given one piece of paper and a pen, and you were in solitary confinement for your beliefs, what would you write, if you wrote anything? Also, what does solitary confinement look like?

I always think of solitary confinement as the prison cell in the Count of Monte Cristo from a long time ago. I think Richard Chamberlain is the leading actor. Tower-esque, little light, all stone. I'd probably write my twin's name and a will to her, then probably a prayer.

  • I would probably write a poem - hopefully the best poem I've ever written - then I would slide it under the door- and ask for more paper

Excuse me, excuse me, but you didn't answer the question. No more disruption from you, Mr. Freedom. :)

I would say the setting would be an old castle. A small room way up in the tower with a little teeny window that is too high to see out of and a small candle. I think that I would draw a picture of a rose. Beside the rose I would put, "this represents life, the beauty of it, no matter where you are love and faith remain because they come from within, no one can take away inside what you do not give them."

    (or)

I would draw a big smiley face and name it gem. I would talk to it like Tom Hanks did with his volleyball when he was stranded on an island. I can't think of the name of the movie.

    Just depends on my mood...

I think of solitary confinement the same way when I picture it. Walls made of stone, worn smooth with a window, a grate, and a bed of straw on a wooden frame.

Are you still working on the poem you wrote about a solitary woman?

Well, that one is basically finished. I'll probably revisit it when I finish the other 54 for the book. It's the only one I've finished, or even started that I wanted to finish. I was going to submit the manuscript this November, but it will have to be next November.

What movie is that sis? Never seen that one. It's funny and it's not funny but I could just picture you doing that and why the name "gem"?

I also envision the same set up with the stone walls, etc. very high up.
I think I would draw and write poetry or whatever else comes to mind at the time and like ETE said, I'm very sure I would need more paper. Also, I would definetly need a window (no matter how small), so at least I could see outside and feel even a slight breeze upon my face.

OK, one piece of paper, one pen, to substantiate my beliefs: I guess quoting some PJ lyrics wouldn't be a bad place to start.
"I'd rather be with an animal." "Those that can be trusted can change their mind." "The in between is mine." "If I don't lose control, explore and not explode, a preternatural other plane with the power to maintain." "Yeh this is living." "Life is what you make it."

I can't think of the name of the movie and yeah, I could picture me doing that too! Scary hugh?? I was thinking along the lines of a "solitare" gem - hence the name.

it's a small, square, stone room...

i would write down what i believed...

but, if i were ever thrown in solitary confinement for what i believe...then, i would be there for believing in love...

are we talking solitary for life? cos if so, id write "you'll never keep me here" and then use the paper to papercut my jugular and die.

That was so creative, you just made me spit out my lunch. Ok, not my entire lunch. It would definitely make a statement.

  • this is a very interesting question, biblio.

it makes me think about "if i never saw another butterfly"

i'd probably write about this one afternoon though in paris, the first time i heard canon in d.

it was amazing, absolutely free. i think i'd write about that, but my mom already did, so . . .

this kid just walked in the room and put his hand on mine; i think i'd have to include that . . . i guess i'd just mix up all these images of things that are really warm and beautiful and free.

I second that...(not spitting out the lunch part).
