And I don't have a dog, my names not Pontius, and I don't even like Pearl Jam too much anymore. But I love this song. So why all the hate? I don't get it.

  • The parts make up the sum of the greatest album ever made.

    Some believe, some don't.

A shame you dont like PJ anymore, why post on this board if you dont like them? As for the song, I like it, even if it is unusual.

I LOVE Pilate !! It's an amazing song, with one of the best bridges in the PJ catalog.

i didn't mean it so brazenly. its all about yield, binaural, and riot act for me. can't listen to much else of theirs right now. and as for why i post here, well, i'm still always interested in what they're gonna do next.

i hate the chorus part....but the rest is one of my favorite songs. i can listen to this verse on repeat for hours...and think i have. :D

stunned by my own reflection, it's looking back sees me too clearly and i swore i'd never go there again...not unlike a friend that politely drags you down, you down, you down....

Yield, Binaural, and Riot Act... what more could you ask for!! That's reason to love the shit out of them right there! Anyways, Pilate does rule...
Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...

Pilate is kinda a poop song. I like the slower parts. But the chorus sounds like when Im having difficulty on the toilet.

That reminds me, I have to put that song back on my iPod. I took it off a few months ago after getting sick of it, and I want it back.

Yep...the bridge is awesome...makes the whole song. Wouldn't even come close to being a great song without it.

I don't want to hear Eddie sing about Jeff's dog.

Funny thing is that i was talking to my ex-girlfriend on messenger about a month ago and she has absolutely no interest in music whatsoever and almost only listens to mainstream music like Justin T or Beyonce and whatnot. Any way, she knows that i'm a huge PJ fan and tells me that she heard a PJ song the other day and she just loved it, one of the best song she had ever heard.
I asked her for the name of the song but she didn't know but said that it was something about Pilate and a dog...... I was quite amazed to be honest.

I love Pilate, great groove and it's a part of Yield :)

I once thought that I didn't like it but then I was stunned by my own reflection as it looked back, and it saw me too clearly. And I swore I'd never go there again.
  • I don't even like dogs, but I've always liked this song. It just seems to fit as a nice mellow track between the wistful "Wishlist" and guitar-driven, "Do the Evolution"

I like Pilate so much i named my dog after the song, he is getting better at obeying & listening as for kissing & loving, well that is a given! All i need to do is to get him sing along now. Great song that is obscure, perfect Pearl Jam.

cook'em just to see the look on there face
  • Yep, I loved hearing it at Missoula '98 too -- my first PJ show!

Great, great song. One of the truly underrated songs in the PJ catalogue.

    Brilliant.

My first show, too!! Drove 22 hours each way to see it! Haven't been back to Montana since but dream of doing so all the time.

Like others said, the bridge on Pilate is great but I could do without the chorus...

  • I see people post about not liking the chorus but the rest of the song... I think the chorus is the best part!

    It's a cool song.

  • Pilate and No Way in 09!!!!!

Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
  • The best part of the song is:

    "Stunned by my own reflection,
It's looking back, sees me too clearly
And I swore I'd never go there again
Not unlike a friend that politely drags you down"

It might be my favorite moment on all of Yield.
