whenever i try to write lyrics all i can think of is pearl jam tunes and cant get any thing down
what should i do

  • Start by playing a chord sequence. Then start singing sounds along with the chord changes: Don't make up words as such at this stage but just create vowel sounds that suggest a feeling or emotion. Like the old scat singers, just make noises that suggest the kind of sounds you want to hear vocalised. Then start to think about words that have vowel sounds that fit the scat you've been improvising, and, with a bit of fine tuning you may evolve a lyric out of freeform mumbling into something poignant.....












    Oh wait. I've just gone and described "Yellow Ledbetter." Yeah, I see what you mean, man. PJ have done it all already....
