Hope is Planted

Remembering.
Broken heart.

The quick tear in my breast and the persistent gnawing.
The audible beating in the quiet of night,
like a clock breaking down.
Tick, Rip. Tick, Rip, Pause.
Tick, Rip. Tick, Rip, Pause.
Agony.

I could hear myself crying, even when I wasn't.
I could feel myself dying.
Because I was.
Because I am.

But I am LIVING too.
Healing.
(After a forest has burned to the ground...it is blackened and flat. Smoldering. Dead.)
Yet,
A green seed grows, a flower blooms, a new day dawns.

On the heels of a broken heart,
a promise is made...
Just as a tree sprouts from ashes, hope is planted
in the cracks of
a broken heart.
Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?

    what promise is being made?

it's a good poem, fer sures. nice imagery and good thought lines. the thing that bugs me about it is more personal than anything. promises are so cheap on the heels of being broken. then you start thinking 'bout the cheap promises you might've made, and holy wow... where's the hope in that? that you won't do it again?

    ugh
  • Maybe, the promise is that you are going to get through all the pain. You’re focusing on the new growth. This is wonderfully done, and the tool’s one receives from these growth experiences can never be taken away. I always thank God for the pain. After I have my little temper-tantrum, of course . . .
Can't you see that there's light in the dark.
Nothing's quite what it seems in the city of dreams.

  • I think this is just lovely! I love a poem that takes you down the dark road and then surprises you by by lighting up towards the end. :) No matter how scorched the earth, beneath it all, there's still life, there's still hope. :)

I read the last stanza and felt that it was a promise to oneself to not allow a broken heart to get them down for long. A promise to rise above, get back on your feet, mend your broken heart and get ready to let love in again. :)
Forget your perfect offering, there is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in. - Leonard Cohen

Just as "Blue" and "Being" mentioned, I found that the hope is in the future. Note: This poem comes 2 years after the fact. I thought at the time, I would never recover but life does go on and if you work on yourself, (and are fortunate enough to have good friends by your side) you can move past the heartache and make a new life for yourself. However changed it may be.

Great poem! I agree BE and PJgirl, I really enjoyed this one! :)
Our love must not be just words, but True Love, which shows itself in action,
No one needs a smile more than someone who fails to give one,
After you die...you know how to LIVE!
