Looking for 2007 Christmas Single Tracks in FLAC (Lossless)!

Just wondering if anyone has ripped the 2007 Christmas single to FLAC or other lossless format and would like to share with the world. I know that MP3s have been floating around for a few weeks, but I'd prefer lossless. Thanks.

You're going to have to have the record for a lossless copy. The second it is transferred to digital, even at a high bitrate is is no longer lossless.

Not true. There are a lot of lossless FLAC vinyl rips out there. Unfortunately, with the loss of the music haven site oink.cd, theyre hard to find. You would have to find a 10C member with the record that also has the equipment to do a lossless vinyl rip.
At this moment I know of none.

  • I have the Christmas single, but I don't have the equipment to do the transfer. I have lossless rips of all previous singles, so I am surprised that I haven't seen the 2007 single available as well.

There's one already on Youkan's and there's this one:

Turntable > analog to DAT > optical cable to computer > 44.1 khz > SoundTrack Pro to edit heads & tails and normalize levels > FLAC.

    Big thanks to JasonA! :)

demetrios, thanks for the info. I downloaded the FLACs from MegaUpload and they are terrific.

Huge thanks to JasonA for an awesome job. Great sound quality FLACs (unlike the 2006 Christmas single FLACs I downloaded last year). :)

Technically, he's correct. Analog is a smooth waveform. Digital is an approximation of the waveform. You can make the approximation really, really close to the analog waveform, as CDs are, but it's not a perfect representation. That's why audiophiles claim that vinyl has a much fuller, warmer sound.

Much appreciated! I've got the Xmas single but no vinyl player so this is great!

Thank you! These are excellent. :D

Think these are the best quality 2006 flacs out there but they're 24-bit so they can't be burned to cd. If I can convert them to 16-bit I'll upload and post the link here...
uʍop ǝpısdn ǝɹ,ǝʍ 'punoɹ ʎɐʍ ɹǝɥʇo ǝɥʇ ןןɐ s,ʇı
  • It worked! So here's the 2006 Holiday Single in 16-bit flac. It's the same version as posted above just with a couple of changes. I converted from 24 to 16-bit and also cut the pop off the start of the LROM file, there's still at least two or three seconds of silence left before the song starts.

uʍop ǝpısdn ǝɹ,ǝʍ 'punoɹ ʎɐʍ ɹǝɥʇo ǝɥʇ ןןɐ s,ʇı
  • How necessary was this for two songs? I just listened and can't really tell the difference between that and the mp3's

I believe "lossless" refers to compression of digital audio. It does not mean it is a continous recording like analog. Digital recrodings are small samples, and technically missing minute bits of the sound. Basically millions of little pieces with small gaps between each piece or sample. That sparks to whole digital v analog debate.

so the only lossless x-mas single you'd find is a digital rip of it in a lossless format(wav-flac-aiff). Being digital it in essence has lost some data/sound. If you want the best sound play it on a good record player.

I may be wrong but I don't think so. I am sure the other a-philes can chime in more technical shit

that listing won't be up for long...
  • Thanks a lot!
    You're very welcome! :)

We know, the whole point is that cds are at 16-bit because the difference is considered imperceptible to the human ear. The real problem with cds is this sort of compression: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Gmex_4hreQ ;)
