I'm sinking

I'm sinking
into drinking
and trying to hold onto hope
with a tattered rope....
I'm rolling and recoiling
boiling fevered fresh
a mesh....a mesh....
a memory of me...
and now I springboard into
life's pool
like a fool....
I take this gnarled twisted old tree
and cut it down
the clown
to make with glee
a space for you and me...
my son.....and I thoroughly
embrace the traces
of love you leave
and grieve when I see
that I'm sinking
without you....
and you're all about me....
you sit on my knee
and I tease smiles from you
and giggles like fountains over-
spilling....
the drilling in my head says
I'm sinking.....I'm drowning
in drink.....and I think....I might
stop for you.....
and get back
you'll take up my slack
with my tethered hope....
the scope is boundless
you won't be sacrificed for my sorrow
tomorrow
I'll read a book....
tomorrow
the babbling brook of sorrow
will become the raging river of love
