Live my life through the TV screen
Take advise from my magazines
Don't forget before you go to bed
to do all the things that Oprah said
Pretty billboards catch my eye
full of things i have to buy
Never worry how to cut my hair
or what clothes to wear
just look to the cast of Friends
or follow Britney's newest trends
Don't tell me how to feel
I only take advise from Dr Phil

You're laughing with me right? not at me?? :)
I'm studying from home at the moment, way to tempting for me not to watch oprah and phil. Oh, if the references seem a little old (friends and britney) it's cos i wrote it a couple of years ago. Just a light view on how TV and entertainment control a lot of what we think and do, or what we think everyone else is doing, what's cool and what's not. I'm really hating Coke ads at the moment. Have always hated them. But I especially hate them when they dictate what is cool and what is not. and the image that we are supposed to live up to, especially women, but more and more recently even men. sorry im raving. i'll go study now.
  • I like this, but the whole coke thing....idunno, I really dont watch TV and hour a month tops...but, I hate every commercial that has a rapper showing off his 'Bling' because apparently thats supposed to make me want to buy that product.....some guy who blows his money on trivial astetics in a desperate attempt to be noticed
The only thing I enjoy is having no feelings....being numb rocks!

And I won't make the same mistakes
    (Because I know)
Because I know how much time that wastes
    (And function)
    Function is the key

oh theres a coke ad at the moment that says something to the effect of "In the ideal world the men should be cool the woman should be hot and the coke should be ice cold" or something like that. And I just get so angry. my mind goes DONT TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD BE. and its especially crap cos i'm certainly not hot and an ad like that would make me feel like crap if i didn't have someone who i know loves me anyway, dispite not looking like the "ideal" woman. Anyway, previous to that ad they had one saying how people "should" enjoy there music, like your not cool unless you do what they say, and it was totally targeted to teens. When i have kids i want them to go up loving who they are as an individual, not feeling like they need to recreate themselves as a carbon copy of the media's latest fad. and again i am raving...
  • rave on pacifier...I aggree totally with you. There was pepsi who had an add with Sean Combs (I cant even remember what he says his name is now...loser) that he catches a ride in pepsi van, then all the sudden everyone is 'pimping out' pepsi trucks. This is the honest truth is that I went and bought a coke shortly after that just to spite them...hey a TV add actually worked on me... sorta (it did cause impulse buying)

the only adds that generally appeal to me are ones that I am truly interested in...you know the type. CRAP!!! now that I started thinking about those adds I gotta go to the fridge and get a beer

Yep, and then you see a really good ad for migrane tablets and you start wishing you had a headache so you could try the product. It's a slippery slope. ;)
