does anyone else do this...?

sometimes, especially when i used to write more, just as i was drifting off into sleep words would come to me, sometimes they didn't seem to have much meaning, but i would grab a pen or pencil and scribble it down on the nearest peice of paper in the dark. The next morning I would have totally forgotten if it weren't for seeing the barely readable scribbles next to me and going "ok? I don't know where that came from"

Eg: 2001

My thoughts are hollow, meaningless, empty words
Echoes of nothingness reverberating
off a landscape of molehill mountains

Anyone else have this happen? If so can you offer an example?

  • I do that lots. what makes it worse, I wear glasses.....so, I would give you an example, but try reading something you wrote in the dark with the vission of a freakin cat. lol

so, now I get up, turn on the light and start writing. unfortunately when I do that I cant remember exactly how the lines went. Just invested in a cheap digital recorder though, so we'll see how that goes....though I hate the sound of my own voice.

man, I think I need a new hobby or something
The only thing I enjoy is having no feelings....being numb rocks!

And I won't make the same mistakes
    (Because I know)
Because I know how much time that wastes
    (And function)

Let me know what you come up with next time when you've recorded it. Would be interested. Sometimes it's the craziest stuff just before sleep, sometimes the best, sometimes you just go "What the...?!!" :)
  • and how. the 2 best times I find for writing are the grey and the groan
(when I first start to drift away, and when I am forcing myself to get up in the morning) minds relaxededisly i guess

the one I posted ealier was one I came up with last night and put to the recorder...its something I have been trying to put words to for a while, but last night it just came out (I dont have a tittle for this yet...)

geez, my mind can't think of anything in the morning, only "I want more sleep". Nah, night time is the best time for my thinking, i think. I'll go check out the one you wrote.

put words to? so it's a song? do you sing? I read it. It's good but i certainly hope you are not feeling that way right now. kinda made my stomach go in knots. what sort of music do you play? obviously not light hearted stuff :)

That is light hearted....well for me. you must realize that I generally hate everything. most things disgust me...I often repulse myself. society as a whole pretty much sucks. we live in a degenerate world. and most importantly, you can pretty much ignore what I just said. I dont know if I even believe that myself, but maybe I do.

scratching my head 'man I hate confusing myself'

righto, I can kinda see that. The world sucks, lotsa things happen that I wish wouldn't, but most the time I feel pretty damn lucky to be here. Love far outways the hate in this world, and for all the big problems with no solutions that seem to weigh on the soul, there are so many little things we have control of and can enjoy, right down to a simple smile to a stranger, that sometimes we can forget the bad things are even there. Makes me think of that saying

God give me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
The courage to change the things I can
And the wisdom to know the difference

Anyways Im raving again. have a bad tendency to do that.

see now, thats my issue..The big things usually do have simple solutions. the 2 biggest problems with the world today are a---political agendas b---religion (really religion is a major factor/excuse for almost all major conflicts). and well, I guess there is a c---greed, but...

But what can YOU do to change it?

another saying, which I think came from "the year of the environment" so it is to do with polution, but is relevant to just about anything

    "Think globally, act locally"

You are acting through your writing, and it's probably the best you can do as an individual, but the bigger picture will take a long time to change, if it does at all.

I pay good money to fight my wars
to make me money to fight some more

I use God's name to shield myself
try march to heaven but fall to hell

    thou shall not kill
    love and free will
    to your fellow man

    but if in war
    these words ignore
    and murder on demand
  • nice, you just whip that off?

Anyways, I realize that you cant change the big things, but the solutions are often clear...ie..."smoking increases medical costs, so we are going to continually raise taxes on tobacco to cover the costs" BS, they are making money. If they werent it would be off the market/illegal to smoke

polution...hmm hears a thought...offer tax rebaits to people who buy hybrid or electric or whatever cars....oh wait, they are 'concerned' about the enviroment, but we cant trully promote those kind of thing. The oil must flow.

I swear, Kyoto is the great equalizer. It will help balance the worlds wealth, as the east is YEARS ahead of the west in this area

    now im ravin on

:) nope, wrote that in '02 aswell. just seemed relevant. Haven't written much of anything in ages, except for one i wrote on here yesterday or the day before. the thread is "leavin here" it's not very good, but it came to me, for the first time in a long time something came to me and it felt good to write it down.

oh and of course your right that it's about the money with the stuff you mentioned. but here in oz at least they are phasing out smoking in pubs and clubs because of all the passive smoking that people are exposed to, especially those who work behind the bar every night.
  • now theres another issue. I smoke a bit like tops a pack a week. they are phasing it out of bars and stuff here to, and the bars and restraunts are bigtime sufferring! They boomed for about 3 weeks...then nothing. I know lots of people who had thriving establishments that are now ready to shut the doors.

Do you think that if tomorrow the government found out that if a person ate a cup of katchup a day it causes cancer that it would be on the market at the end of the month? No chance. So why is smoking legal. You cant actually smoke anywhere anymore (in a lot of cities) hence, they know that even second hand smoke is too harmful. But it is such a nice cash cow, they dont think they can take it off the market. Heres a thought...with all the revenue and jobs lost via these various establishment, because people are just staying home to smoke, are they better off? Ban it

Heres the one that really pisses me off....all these old vetrens that go to the LIONS club and what not (thats a nation wide vlub for vetrens that they can hang out and have a beer with old military buddies) are loosing buisness. They do a lot for the community, and now they are loosing touch with regulars. whats even worse is that some of these old timers are going to loose touch with eachother. THAT pisses me off.

    Ban it entirely

Im all for that. it would never completely work, but i'm still for it. Imagine the whole world going through withdrawals at the same time though! AHHH! :)

Last night when I was about to fall asleep "It doesn't matter what you are to the world, because you're the world to me" popped in my head. So did "You confine me to prison, you confine me to hell, you can find me in visions but you won't find me well." Almost didn't write them down, I usually don't. I think I will from now on.
