hey, ever have this amzing idea, and you've written half the story, and all of a sudden you can't write anymore? And you feel like you just need to relax, and another part of you doesn't want to stop writing? I'm getting that now. Any advice?
things were different then
all is different now
I tried to explain
somehow...

yeah, i get that feeling a lot. it's quite the tough spot to be in, i'd say. however, i don't have much advice accept.... that if you don't want to stop writing, don't! and then.. something surely will come along eventually. :)

    relax....take a break....take it easy.....have a cocktail with an umbrella in it.....'s no big deal......then it'll come back......

  • I think a good tip for writer's block, when you're writing a story, is to start with imagining a character, and to think about how their inner self conflicts with their external surroundings or circumstances that try to dictate their identity or place in society. Imagine that this character is a bit of an outsider but still a bit of a stirrer, a catalyst whose quirkiness has an effect on people. Then place your character in a social context that is a bit old fashioned or reactionary or characterised by conflict, and imagine how this character's radical view of the world changes the situation in that community.

You've plenty of opportunity to write something as original as you like, using this formula. I think of "Jane Eyre" and "Germinal", hugely different novels, that exploit this very model.

And if your story can be adapted to this basic idea, it might really work out! ;)

    Good luck, Jacob. :)

That's a pretty damn good idea! Well, I've already gotten halfway through the first draft, I'm thinking today I'm going to finish it, and then go back and fix things up for the second one.

But that model is a pretty good idea. It really is. Thanks for the good luck!

I just find it's easier to write with a good flow and ease when I'm up at the cottage, or when I'm up camping, that's when all the great ideas start to flow.
