If we had more courage, we wouldn't need to dream.

Here's one i found that i wrote a few weeks back, just adding it now cos its exactly the same as how i'm feeling now:

Last night i dreamt a dream,
Where I was pretty and you spoke to me,
And in that dream we spoke all of the words,
That we had never before dared whisper.
Courage is a friend that we both need.

If only i lived the world that's in my head,
Where I was pretty and you walked with me,
And in that world we would not need speak,
For i had screamed my thoughts, and heard them said back,
And this was no echo, for once i wasn't alone.

But when i woke up this morning,
I looked around and you had left,
No words were spoken and i fell back to sleep,
And as i slept, i dreamt a dream,
Where i was pretty and you'd left with me.

if we didn't need to dream, we wouldn't need courage....which, I guess, is another way of putting what you said.....but think of Hamlet.....in his soliloquy to be or not to be......the courage to end dreams?
....they're asking me to prove why I should be allowed to stay with my baby in Australia, because I'm mentally ill......and they think I should leave......

Yes i understand what you are saing. This poem shows how because of people's reluctantcy in life and lack of courage, we have to dream up the place and life we want to live, or just imagine it, which is sad. Thank you for your reply though :-)

do you think Martin Luther King needed courage to dream?

He had a dream and he had the courage to speak out for it.

I was refering to how i dont have the courage to speak what i think, and instead just continue to dream it.

It's important that people do have dreams, and ideas of what they want in life, but just as important, that as they, have these dreams, they share them and speak out their feelings, like Martin Luther King did. I know you're questioning me, saying that MLK had the courage to speak, so should he just stop dreaming? But that is not my point.

I love the words you used together.....courage and dream.....and it made me think about their interdependence :)

Hi There! I daydream a lot and I have courage. I find though when I daydream like the idea in the original poem, I get sad, so then it's time to put someone in the daydream who could make me laugh.
You know when a woman is in labor in a television program and she always says, "It's time." That's what I feel about daydreaming and courage and how they come together. At many points in life it's just time to put the pedal to the metal and get some work done no matter how big or small the dream. Courage and kindness are my favorite characteristics I can find in another person. If I met someone who admitted to daydreaming as much as I do there is a good chance we would have a very good laugh.

Hey. lol, totally know what you mean about the women in labour on TV. Yeah, i daydream, though probably not as much as you. There are times when people can be talking to me, and i'll be kinda looking right through them with something on my mind, or something i want to say to them, but i just subconsciously nod at them. Im not that courageous though. I find it really hard to say wht i feel to people, i think im probably scared of what they may say back or somehting???

Thank you for your comment. :)

Same here, ive always wrote lyrics and stuff, for my band, but, it was only since about 2 weeks ago, i started adding poetry to this board. I used to always go on the PJ board but just ignore this section but i love it now. I started off, by adding some lyrics, which are probably like 10 pages back now, then, i put a couple of poems on which are probably 3/4 pages back now, then i put this one on today. I love the feeling though when you get a reply, hehe im like a little kid. :)

  • I read this the first day I came on, but my comprehension was a little low at the time. Now that I read it and absorbed it.... that was truely a beautiful poem.

Why thank you, yeah its a very simple poem, but if you can relate to it, it can be quite meaningful.
