For my art course i would like to put some form of imagery to this quote from The catcher in the rye:

"Don't ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody."

I'm thinking of using some form of imagery to show giving up, and losing faith in an idea, but i can't think of anything great.
Please suggest anything to help me out, it can be an obvious idea, or a complicated one, basically, i just need suggestions.

Thanks, Shaun.

    Hey Shaun,

Are you familiar with the Rider/Waite(sp)...tired n stoned...puff puff give--
Tarot Deck??? Why don't you do a search on-line and I'd tell you that some VERY interesting images come to mind for me-- I'd suggest maybe a myriad of them??? The 5 & 7 of Cups cards are ones that speak for themselves, but there are many other ones that you may think differently of,... like the 5 of Cups has a man perched against a tree focusing on the cups hovering above him that he cannot have- thus he misses the fact he has many cups in front of him,... the 7, hmm, maybe 8,.. is a bit different, but may be more appropriate??? It depicts a man who is mourning the loss of all the spilled cups before him, not seeing the ones behind him,... Just a quick idea-Good Luck!
"To live,.... love,..... there's a song to be sung,....
'cause we may not be the Young Ones,..."

--first u sow the seed-- nature grows the seed-- then we eat the seed-- ;) nah,... we smoke it!

    Hello Shaun,
I just finished teaching the book for a college class. I would say the imagery of giving up doesn't match the quote. The quote is Holden starting to realize that he had made connections, when he thought he was alone through out the book. An image I get is Holden yelling behind a closed window with everybody (the characters like Phoebe, Ackley, Stradlater) outside by a pond with some ducks on it...
    This is just my insight...
