Has it really been
Nearly ten years past
Since our first meeting?
And yet we continue those
Excavations into each other
Though beneath us, the world tremors
Our hold on one another is steadfast, firm
And again, the revisit
And all those thoughtful touches that remain supple,
As if the searching hands gliding over rough skin
Overlooks those worn with crevices
Cut deep over time,
Harsh words and broken dreams
Are not spoken of now
And among the moment’s unsilence
Beneath a whirlwind of tangled tresses
Raven midnight, and golden sun
The venture continues
Curves and angles, angles and curves
Begins our search backward into time
When we were once truly strangers
And all things overcome abandonment, sobriety, and deaths
All coalesce into a primal song of banishment.
And as we work to satisfy our nuptial hunger
Our instincts give in
Leaving only our shadows to whisper and mock about
The tightness of our bonds no longer held by friendship.
